My guess is that you have a few months before worrying about an upgrade – if the last time period between the Creative Suite and the Digital Video Collection releases are any indication. Get the software now and learn to use it.
There are many, many requests for new functionality, but nobody who actually knows what they are working on would be allowed to post anything.

Data DVDs are simple enough. Chances are you have a program on your PC that came with the DVD writer. Just keep each AVI to under 4.3GB, call it 20 minutes.
However, you would be better off with an external USB2.0 or Firewire drive.
But why do you need to put them on a DVD? For use in another PC? If the same PC, what is the point?

You need to ask if it is 720p from a JVC or 1080i from a Sony.
Then, once you know the frame size, for a logo my best guess is to use the Quicktime Animation codec with Millions of Colors+ (the plus sign gets you the alpha channel).
So either 1280X720 or 1920X1080 will be the frame size.

I use ImTOO DVD Ripper for such things when necessary. Not verey expensive. And it allows you to use any codec you have on your system. So if you had a DVStorm for example, you could use the CanopusDV codec. Worse comes to worse, almost every system has a Cinepak codec. If you have the disk space, HuffYUV works great.

Premiere Pro does not support highly compressed files, especially temporally compressed. DivX is for viewing, not for editing. Find a different way to rip your DVD.

They are both good. If you want to learn to use Photoshop to make you work in a NLE better, then “Photoshop CS for Nonlinear Editors” is probably the better choice. If you want to use Photoshop with After Effects in particular, then “After Effects & Photoshop” is the better choice. I have both on my bookshelf.

Perhaps a heat issue? Rendering and exporting take up as much CPU cycles as they can get. So perhaps it is overheating?
Unplug and open the case and check for dust. Clean everything out and try again.
