They do not need to be on the same track for transitions. Putting the transition on the end of the top clip will transition between the two. I sort of looks like the old A/B editing when you do that, except that there is no transition track.

Those who say, probably don’t really know.
Adobe does not tell you what they are planning for the next release because if it doesn’t work out, people will get mad that they “promised” it. So they keep quiet. Or, people will not buy the current software, and they go broke because they can’t sell anything except for a couple of months after each release.

The time remapping (slo-mo) should be done in After Effects before exporting to an AVI for use in Premiere Pro.

Just off the top of my head, I would say that you would use the chroma key to create a track matte, and then blur the track matte and use it to somehow blend with the surrounding area.

The eye dropper is available under Chroma Key. Click and hold to drag it to the color you want to replace. The keyer in After Effects is better than in Premiere Pro, and Keylight (comes with AE Pro) is even better than that.

What is hard about using square pixels? I must have missed something.
It seems to me that my only problem with 16:9 is figuring out how to get a 1920X1080 stage on a Monitor screen that is too small to do so.
I have to work at 50% or so just to fit it all in.
