Transitions can certainly be used to good effect. For example, a clockwise sweep often indicates a change in time.
I know that there have been bits and pieces of information such as that posted here in the past, but I don’t know of an article on the Cow about transitions that mention what people use to indicate certain things like passage of time, change of location, etc.
However, if you Google “transitions indicate passage of time” (without the quotes) you will find some interesting articles.

More specifically, zooming out is done with the built-in default Motion effect using the Scale and Position parameters.

I just burned out my firewire port so testing will be delayed I guess. I will have to spend over $500 just to get it fixed out of warranty.
I messed up when I put the firewire cable from the RT.X2 into the PC I guess.

The problem is that you must make that change and thenm delete the pictures and import them again. So it might be easier to nest the sequence into a new sequence and then change the speed of the nested sequence to 60%.

Or you can create a track matte with white in the middle, fading to black at the top and bottom.

As for your audio keyframes, are you certain your cache files are on a drive that always gets the same drive letter?
As for rendering a sequence, the render does not carry over when you nest that sequence into another. Exporting to the same codec as the project would be one solution. QT is seldom the solution on a PC.

You could export a DV AVI and then use Quicktime Pro to convert the AVI to a MOV at the appropriate size and data rate.

You’ll want to note that you can create a new workspace and then integrate the titler window into the main screen instead of having a separate window. (Drag and drop the separate panels.) This works great for people who jump around from one workspace to another.
