Wait a moment here. Ripping to DV-AVI or Microsoft DV only used a litle under 13GB per hour. So even using a two hour movie to play with, you would only use 25GB or so.

You must be ripping to uncompressed, which is unnecessary.

If I were you, I would create a Video for Windows project at 320X240 using square pixels and edit in that.

You can always capture additional footage into an existing project without a problem. I always use the “Save a COpy” before I do anything drastic, but I have never actually needed to go back and use the copy.

I have had no quality issues reducing the frame from a 16:9 to fit into a 4:3 letterboxed.

When you export, what settings are you using? What are you exporting to for final format? Or are you judging the softness from within Premiere Pro?

I am a bit confused. Steps 1, 2 & 3 are all possible.

But why would you do step 4. You already have an uncompressed clip. Why put it on a timeline and rerender and then export the same thing again?

By the way, when you export to MPEG2 from Premiere Pro, it does not use the rendered files. It starts from scratch using the original material. So there is no degradation of going to DV first. Of course, this only matters to titles and stills and the like. The DV clips will never get any better than DV. Even uncompressing them does not increase the quality. Something about a silk purse from a cow’s ear?

You can move the titles just like you can move any still image. Just use the default Motion effect. So if you want two lines of text to come from opposite directions, you just use two titles and animate them both.

Canopus ADVC products are reliable. However, I had no problems using a Dazzle with a 1394 connection.

It depends on what you want to do with the title. Regular text works great in the titler. And you can make shapes if you are not inclined to make any odd shapes.

If you want to spice up your titles, use After Effects to animate them, or use Bluff Titler to make them 3D.

Perhaps you could describe your needs a bit better. But if you want to get Photoshop, then Elements is good for most all of your needs, is my guess.
