    Hi everyone,
I decided to get my act together and start converting all my MST3K video tapes to DVD. I’m looking around for a consumer converter to take footage from VHS into premiere pro.

I’m looking into the Dazzle products. They have Dazzle 85, 90, and I’ve seen the 150.
The only difference I can see between the 85 and 90 is software, which doesn’t concern me since I plan on using premiere pro to handle any importing and what not. The 150 looks cool, but I don’t need the features to export from digital back out to analog.

At 50 bucks, the 85 looks like a good deal. Any opinions on this? Any issues with syncing? I don’t plan on using the pinnacle software since most people seem to bitch about that being the weak point of that package.

Are there any other options out there. I don’t need anything on the pro level. This is just to get my old taped Mst3k’s onto a format that won’t deteriorate over time.

    Thanks

Canopus ADVC products are reliable. However, I had no problems using a Dazzle with a 1394 connection.

I’ve used the Canopos at a previous job in the past, and was impressed with it. But it’s rather pricey at around 250 to 300 bucks, last I checked.

It be nice to have, but not for this project i transfering tapes to DVD. Seems like overkill

    Thanks though

I use a Canopus ADVC 50 and a ADS Pyro A/V link…the latter is about $160 (B&H)…came with Premiere Elements which I sold for a few bucks.
    Both work well.

We have used the ADVC 100 very reliably, as well as a consumer DV camera. We also bought the Pyro A/V link with Premiere Pro Elements. It is very flaky – doesn’t always show up as a device – stick with Canopus.

Yikes! I just ordered the Pyro (w/ Elements) from B&H. I think they’ve dropped it to around $140. Hope I don’t have the flakiness problems you’re experiencing. I know I’ve tried using a USB Dazzle with Premiere and it ain’t happenin’ at all. Unless it’s hooked into the IEEE-1394, PPro won’t see it. I’ll post a review when it comes in next week.
