[John Rofrano] “Actually, that’s *exactly* what he has to worry about. Steve said that sometimes he has to do voiceovers and I assume he means that he does them himself sitting at the computer like I do.”
John, you are correct and thank you for clarifying for Mr. Rhoden. The issue you’re experiencing is exactly what I’m trying to avoid. My office at work is my edit room and I have to make do with what I’ve been given. I won’t be able to build out a vocal booth for use when either I or the hired talent are recording, and I’ve found that even the fan on my PC bleeds into the mic, hence the reason I’m concerned about adding even more gear with fans running.
Also, I’m reading a little about the Glyph drives over on Sweetwater.com. These are marketed to the music recording world as being ultra quiet. Will call to ask more tomorrow.
Thanks for the input.

If you google search motion backgrounds you’ll see tons of sites to buy backgrounds very cheap. One of the larger companies for this is Digital Juice and their website is constantly running deals to get complete sets on clearance really cheap. I’ve also bought a few from various companies on eBay.

No, I don’t listen to music on my laptop but I’ve recently installed a couple of apps that had autostarts on the discs. You think it’s still looking for one of those discs?

It must have been the 4 GB limit. Once I set AE to break up the files into 1 GB chunks it worked fine. I’m glad I learned about the secret prefs along the way as well!
Thanks very much for the help! The Cow to the rescue once again.

Steve, answers to your questions:
1. Does this occur at a specific point in the render each time you try to render?
Yes, it stops at 0;02;18;06 every time2. Are you sure you’re rendering to the drive (or partition) that has 70 GB free?
yes, I’ve double checked this each time I tried to render3. Have you tried rendering to a different disk?
no, I have a system disk and a firewire media disk so always render to the media disk4. Have you tried rendering to a TGA sequence, then reimporting?
no, I’ll have to look that up just to know what this means.5. Have you tried enabling the secret prefs? (search the COW for “secret”)
no, have to search for this as well6. Have you tried defragging the drive?
Yes, I do this on a regular basis7. To which codec are you rendering?
trying to output video for windows, which I typically use and drop into Vegas to work on soundtrack, narration, etc.8. Can you try a different codec?
not sure what I should use? QT?9. Which OS, which AE version are you running?
Fresh install of XP Professional was done about a week ago. AE version 6.5 Standard10. Were you rendering to your system drive?
no, rendering to an external drive dedicated to aduio/video files11. Do you have anything else running that may be trying to access your drive (this would be a longshot)?
no, AE is the only open app. There’s probably some background things that could be shut off but in the past I’ve rendered without problem so not sure they would be an issue now?12. Can you try rendering with Task Manager (Win) or System Monitor (Mac) open to give you a clue as to what’s going on?
I’ll have to give that a try.Thank you so much for your help!!!

Thanks. I’ll try this when I get home tonight.

Ok, got that working but one more question. I see that scaling the map and solid (with the line render) first causes problems in keeping the scale of the mask copied to the null proportional. So I created the null before scaling anything down to fit the screen and it worked. But when the mask is copied to the null position, it’s way off to the upper left. Adjusting the anchor point pulled the null where I need it, but is there something I should be doing to keep the position from moving way over in the first place?
Sorry to keep asking but this has turned into one of those things that just doesn’t add up in my head.
Thanks for you assistance!

I’ll check it out. Just got the ok this morning to get the upgrade. Makes me happy!

Another good tip. Thanks!

Thanks. That seems so obvious now, of course. I edit in Vegas so wasn’t in the mindset to use the PSD file since I’m used to splitting out the layers. Thanks for the fast reply!
