  • copy mask to position property?

This stems from a question I asked a couple weeks back and part of the answer I can’t seem to get. It involves parenting a 3D Null to a solid that has an animated line. How do I animate the null’s position by “copying the mask and pasting it into the position property”? The goal is to have a camera follow the line across a map, like it’s flying just above the surface of a globe. I understand the concept of parenting the camera to a null which in turn is parented to the solid (which has the mask for the line). But getting the null to accept the position data hasn’t worked for me at this point. Any pointers on making this happen would be much appreciated.

    thanks

Ok, got that working but one more question. I see that scaling the map and solid (with the line render) first causes problems in keeping the scale of the mask copied to the null proportional. So I created the null before scaling anything down to fit the screen and it worked. But when the mask is copied to the null position, it’s way off to the upper left. Adjusting the anchor point pulled the null where I need it, but is there something I should be doing to keep the position from moving way over in the first place?
Sorry to keep asking but this has turned into one of those things that just doesn’t add up in my head.
    Thanks for you assistance!

the mask position is off because parenting changes the position values of the children. do your move then turn off parenting, then copy and paste the mask and it may work out.

Thanks. I’ll try this when I get home tonight.
