Sounds like a pain, but hey, that’s why they’re called workarounds, eh?

    thanks for the tip!

So a VOB is actually an MPEG2 file modified for a DVD player to recognize it on the disc, as opposed to a plain-jane MPEG2 that could play on a PC?

Also, my brother is getting into all this as well and sent me this question.
I put a 30 minute MPEG2 file in Vegas and cut off the beginning and end of the file. Then told it to “Render As” a new MPEG2 file with the exact same settings as the original file. It took 40 minutes to process the file. But with DVD Architect it takes 20 minutes to process two 30 minute files – so basically 1/4th the time.
First, he’s recording TV shows for his daughter using software that records as MPEG2, but isn’t he losing quality by recompressing MPEG2 in the render? I’m not sure what’s going on with the render times though.

    thanks again,
    Steven

I’ve been exporting the layers out of photoshop and bringing them in on separate tracks in Vegas as you suggest, but it would just be easier if Vegas would grab the psd file and throw them on layers for you. I understand what Gary said about making backgrounds and what not, but that doesn’t seem nearly as useful as that functionality in Vegas would be.

    Thanks for the replies.

Just my $.02 worth… Everything Buho just said is the same as my experience. I’m using the 9×12 tablet with dual monitors. I set up the tablet to see both monitors individually instead of one big desktop, which means that half the tablet surface is used for each monitor. The nice thing is that for photoshop or Painter you can change the settings to use the entire tablet surface for one monitor. Plus, you get to take advantage of the pressure and pen-tilt features through all of this. It’s very cool in that respect.
Using the pen for basic PC functions though is not a good workflow, and their mouse is kind of lame indeed. But, I love this thing and highly recommend it if you’re doing anything with photoshop or graphics.

I find these discs excellent for going back and reviewing/referencing various functions of Vegas, so plan to hang on to them. My guess is most everyone who has them feels the same. Obviously I could be wrong…but have you considered just saving a little longer and buying a new set? Anyway, good luck in your search and happy editing!
