FWIW, I haven’t seen Tim’s DVDs but I’ve met him and he’s extremely knowledgeable and freely shares information. I haven’t met Gary but I have his DVDs and they are excellent, having saved my rear last Christmas when my work bought Vegas and asked me to have a fully produced video in a week. With Vegas and Gary’s discs it was a cakewalk. (not to be confused with Cakewalk, maker of the fine Sonar software).

This seems to work as long as you’re at the end of the clip, but I’m splitting it in the middle and even with the loop function unchecked, it slips the original clip back out. In my music recording software you can tell it to “apply trimming” and it destructively edits the track so the slip function is gone. I can’t find a way to do this in Vegas. Am I missing something?

Both excellent suggestions. Unclicking the looping property was what I was missing. Lack of funding for additional tools means I’ll be using the first method, but in the future may have to check into Excalibur.
Thanks again,

That’s interesting. The obvious question then is why isn’t this functionality in Vegas already?
Also, this would have me adding popups on top of mpeg. Won’t I lose quality when I render out to mpeg again for DVD? Perhaps it’s so negligible that it won’t be noticed by the naked eye. Maybe I can get the demo version of Movie Studio and give it a try!
Thanks

What software rips DVDs along with the audio? My understanding is that AC3 files can’t be opened. This would be a huge advantage if it worked…
Thanks

Yeah, the key to this tip was that if the handles are off screen you could shrink the image without panning around. The plus/minus keys seem to be a good tip though. Thanks for the responses!

You can probably do a google search on Vegasquake and get it pretty quickly. I used this script on a project last month to vibrate a logo along with a revving engine sound; went over really well. If you can’t find it shoot me a line and I’ll email it to you on Monday. Unfortunately I only have it on my work machine so won’t get to it until then.

That was the first thing I tried but to no avail. I’ll do some research into the codec possibility.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Filip, you’ve confirmed what I’ve been thinking today as I was trying to find more info on the web. I’m completely new to AE so didn’t know if 6.5 had most of this included already. Eventually I realized the only reviews available were from ~2000 or earlier, therefore the software is probably passe. (and were those demos on the Alien Skin website something special at one time? they look awful to me)
Thanks again for your assistance.

That was next on my list…but I just finished the render. Solution: saved another version of the file under a different name, closed Vegas, reopened the new version, nudged a track back a forth so I could force it to save this version yet again, then it rendered out. Don’t know why it worked but it did.
Thanks for responding Gary!
