If you have 2 – 23″ monitors, you can later pick up the Matrox MXO and have a calibrated 2nd monitor for more precise color work.

Also, if you ever need to extend your runs (put the computer in a closet) you will find that the 30″ picks up noise even with a good cable. You’ll have to use a repeater to extend that, whereas the 23″ extends nicely in my experience at an addition 5 meters.

Set up the drives with the same media on the same partition names, and you’ll be okay.

So if one person has 2 drives, and the other has 3, then then one of the 2 drives need to have 2 partitions, so you have 3 partions matching 3 hard drives, with names matching exactly.

As long as the file path is the same for each system, they’ll link up fine each time you transfer a project.

For each project that has different scratch discs, you could create a new user. Each user has a separate preferences file, so the scratch discs set for each would be different.

Turn on fast user switchin, then quit final cut under one user, log on as the other user, start final cut, and you should have the correct scratch disc for the project.

MP3 audio, highly compressed, does not work well in Final Cut.

Similarly, H.264, highly compressed video, also does not work well in Final Cut. It was designed for high quality at lower bit rates for use over the internet, and for DVD and some broadcast.

Try some high quality video transcoded to ProRes422, and you’ll see a very good picture at about a gigabyte per minute.

I saw this problem also when testing batch list export and reimport.

I dragged a bunch existing files in to final cut 6.

Then I exported a batch list, and brought that in another project. When I went to reconnect the clips, they would only reconnect one at a time.

However, last week I was moving clips around on another system, and the reconnect was working with FCP 6 in the relative path.

So apparently it’s an issue, but not in all situations.

I have a smart slate which displays sound timecode (this is shot on film), so I want to place the sound timecode in the Aux TC field of the video clip.

I’m not sure what I would modify on the sound timecode, since that is what matches the smart slate.
