    Hi everyone,

My new macpro 2,66 ghz has had some serious hiccups…I decided therefore to make a clean install…I used carbon copier to make a clone of my system disk…now I need to know how to – step by step – reassign my boot disk in order to verify if my clone disk (which is on a external firewire) is working properly…if this works properly I will do a clean install on my system disk (using the clean and install option)…So does anyone know how to do that…I went to disk utility, highlighted my external fw800 disk but couldn’t find my path from that point on….

    Best regards

Go to Apple Menu — System Preferences — Startup disk

or just hold down option as it is turning on and choose which drive you want to boot from

This will work, but going into system preferences will change it permantly as opposed to a one time drive selection.

Not really permanently Russ. If you simply take the firewire clone offline and reboot, your system will boot to the original system drive without having to lift a finger.

    So semi permanantly:)

The computer will first look for the firewire clone because that is what was selected in the system preferences, and if it’s not there, your right, it will boot of the main drive.
