Capture issue & Reconnect issue FCP6
Posted by David Roth weiss on June 5, 2007 at 5:39 pmThere is something not quite right with FCP6 capture. After capturing several DV tapes I’ve noticed a recurring problem in FCP6. If you capture an entire tape with timecode breaks, FCP rightfully splits the capture into multiple files and renumbers them properly and lists them in the browser, but it then fails to acknowledge those clips as being online. Then, when you go to reconnect those clips, you have to do each clip separately because the “reconnect all files in relative path” feature simply doesn’t work anymore.

Kevin,
Seems to be confined to log and batch capturing when timecode breaks are encountered.

June 5, 2007 at 7:46 pmI saw this problem also when testing batch list export and reimport.
I dragged a bunch existing files in to final cut 6.
Then I exported a batch list, and brought that in another project. When I went to reconnect the clips, they would only reconnect one at a time.
However, last week I was moving clips around on another system, and the reconnect was working with FCP 6 in the relative path.
So apparently it’s an issue, but not in all situations.

It can be excruciating. In my case it was like 25 files, and bad enough, but in a case with boat loads of files it would be a horrible waste of time. I’m going to report it.

June 5, 2007 at 9:14 pmDavid –
I’m having the same issue with reconnecting media files and it has nothing to do with capturing across timeliness. This is media that has been moved from one drive to another and now I have to recapture 1 files at a time – and this is a job with about 60 files. excruciating.

June 5, 2007 at 9:23 pmHowdy Herb,
I reported this to Apple as an official bug in FCP 6. Its my first offical bug report ever. I would suggest that you report as well, as your bug is related, but different.

June 6, 2007 at 12:51 amThis is an interesting issue.
About two weeks ago, I installed my copy of FCP 5 on my Powerbook to enable me to continue working on a project while on the road. I copied my files from my desktop machine to a small Firewire drive. and copied the project file to the PB with a jumpdrive. When I went to reconnect the media, I ran into the same problem…only this was with FCP5. There is a thread a few weeks ago about the problem but it sounds exactly like the above problem. I had to reconnect the files one at a time. I had around 350 clips…one at a time was not an option. I ended up reinstalling FCP and everyting worked just fine after that.
Maybe something else has changed somewhere and it’s not just a problem with FCP6?

June 6, 2007 at 12:56 amHaving the same problem here, and my media wasn’t even moved from one drive to another. There are four clips out of about 25 clips that consistently don’t reconnect properly, and I have to reconnect each one individually, as described above. The project work fine in 5.1.4…all I’ve done is install FCS2, on a completely separate drive, make a copy of the project and open it up. There were no timecode breaks with this material.

June 13, 2007 at 12:45 amHi David,
Just curious whether you have heard anything new about the reconnect issues in FCP 6.
I am just about to start a project with FCP 6 that will involve 2 sets of the same media – one in LA – one in Ireland – emailing projects back and forth in order to see each other’s work…
This is a large documentary so the idea of having to reconnect file by file to link someone else’s project to my media is terrifying…
Any news?
Any reply from Apple?
Workarounds?
Keep me posted.
Cheers,
Jim
