  • Aux TC bug when Timecode Rates differ

Posted by Steven Gonzales on June 5, 2007 at 2:46 pm

I have a video source at 23.98 frames per second (ProRes422) with 24 fps timecode.

I also have separate sound files, with 29.97 timecode.

I would like to place the audio timecode in aux timecode field of the video.

So in Modify Timecode, I have Source TC at rate of 24.

I check Aux TC 1 and set rate to 30 and type in a 30 timecode (such as 01:01:01:29).

As soon as I enter, the timecode in Aux TC 1 converts to 24 fps timecode (00:59:29:02).

I submitted bug report to Apple. So right now you can’t autosync via Aux TC when the timecode timebases are different.

What if you do the Modify > Timecode to the Sound TC prior to merging the clips?

I have a smart slate which displays sound timecode (this is shot on film), so I want to place the sound timecode in the Aux TC field of the video clip.

I’m not sure what I would modify on the sound timecode, since that is what matches the smart slate.

    Hi Steve,
I don’t know if this can helps, but I think that with the QT Player you can change a TC track for the oder one. Have a look in “Properties” (Com-J).
    Cheers,
