I looked it up and the cost of storage in 1991 was $7 a megabyte.

That 2 gigabyte OMF file back then would occupy approx. $14,000 worth of hard drive space.

I think there may be a 2 gig limit on OMF file format itself.

You can place sync marks on each audio track (one frame pop), and try exporting only 2 tracks at a time (for example, copy the sequence, and delete the other audio tracks).

Then the sound editor can resync from the sync mark.

If going to Protools,, you could export XML directly to Protools sessions with a tool like XML Pro from Gallery Software https://www.gallery.co.uk/ .

The Sony HVR-M15u can record and capture DVCAM, DV and HDV.

It seems to be the HDV capable version of the venerable DSR-15. It can be had new for $1800 or so. I’ve used it and it worked fine.

Cinefilm in Atlanta has an interesting workflow with 3 perf to HDCAM masters and ProRes422 files simultaneously, if you want another comparison.

I helped with a film, not yet finished, but the image is great to work with in Final Cut. Add in the Matrox MXO and Apple 23 inch monitor, and it’s a nice working environment.

Hopefully, whatever system you use allows creative freedom for the editor.

I’ve had jobs where there was so much supervision, I was essentially a voice activated edit machine, and it was no fun at all.

On the menu tree, under setup menu — operational functions, the DSR1500A has the item “REC FORMAT (REC FMT)”.

The DSR1500 under setup menu — operational functions, does NOT have “REC FORMAT (REC FMT)”.

I believe the DSR1500 can play back, but not record, DV format. It can only record DVCAM.

This is the reason that if you insert a DV pre-recorded cassette into the DSR1500, the NO EDIT indicator lights up, as described on page 23 of the user manual.

This point is not clearly made in the manual, but the DSR1500A seems to have been upgraded with the REC FORMAT option, which is not on the DSR1500.

You might try creating an archive before you FTP, in case the file is being corrupted as it passed through the FTP protocol.

Select the file, under the finder go to file menu, create archive will zip the file, and then it will decompress at the other end when they double click it.

What do you mean by encode? Are you capturing digital video of some type, or are you digitizing analog video?

I would export a batch list from FCP with the current names after importing the P2.

Then I would open that batch list in another text editor, or excel.

Then I would change the clip names with that editor, hopefully using that metadata and copying it to the clip name fields.

Then I would import the batch list back into a bin in Final Cut.

Then I would link to the original files, then use the option in Final Cut 6 to rename the source files to the new clip names.

Maybe there’s something easier, but I’ve done lots of manipulations with bin data in this way.
