  • Batch renaming P2 clips in FCP 6.0.2 Log and Transfer

    Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to batch rename a P2 Cards worth of clips in one swift, samurai style manouvere within FCP?
ie, select 100 clips in the Log and Transfer window and get FCP to rename them all MyGreatShot001 – MyGreatShot100.
What I would love to be able to do is to map the User Clip Name from the in camera metadata to the actual file/clip name in FCP during importing.
I know you can do this using Automator, or P2 Log and an XML, and that RayLight can do this too, but is there really no way to name clips in FCP other than one by one manually like a sweat shop labourer!
    Thanks for any tips.

I would export a batch list from FCP with the current names after importing the P2.

Then I would open that batch list in another text editor, or excel.

Then I would change the clip names with that editor, hopefully using that metadata and copying it to the clip name fields.

Then I would import the batch list back into a bin in Final Cut.

Then I would link to the original files, then use the option in Final Cut 6 to rename the source files to the new clip names.

Maybe there’s something easier, but I’ve done lots of manipulations with bin data in this way.

    Thanks Steven.
I have a big job coming up with many P2 cards to be shot and logged in a short time and I really don’t want to have to manually name every clip in FCP’s Log and Transfer.
I wish it had the ability to batch rename clips like P2 Log or RayLight.
