March 19, 2008 at 11:31 pm in reply to: EX1 resolutions to HDSDI and its media?

Does anyone know the resolution coming out the direct HD-SDI port when the EX1 camera is running in “camera” mode and also printing to its card media. I’ve been led to believe 1920 x 1080 is always goi9ng out the HD-SDI BNC regardless of the HQ or SP setting. Is this true? If so, then the resolution only changes going to the media and so the quality switch is really for the encoder feeding the media. That doesn’t seem logical but I’d love to find someone who knows for sure.
    Thanks,

    Kristian,
In my manual it says that in Mac preferences I “should see an extra display which represents the extended desktop feature of your multibridge. The size of the Multibridge display will appear differently to your computer display, and may be in 2K, HD or SD resolution.”

In my preferences>displays>arrangement, I only see the two computer monitors I use to display my Mac OSX applications like After Effects, FCP, Photoshop, etc. Does this mean that I should be seeing a third extended monitor that is my multibridge, or does this mean that if I normally use two computer monitors for just my computer that I just can’t see the output of the Eclipse?

I shouldn’t have to give up my second computer monitor just to see the video output on The Eclipse. After all I have dedicated a very nice Sharp 45 in LCD with HDMI input just to the Eclipse and when I check “enable video desktop” I can see the other computer monitor on the big Sharp, but I don’t want that displayed so I uncheck “enable video desktop” and then I don’t ever see anything except and error which I guess is coming from the sharp that says, “An incompatible video signal has been received. Check the output device settings.”

I am just trying to play a normal .mov clip that shows up fine in Blackmagic deck control and also shows up fine in the FCP program monitor on the computer screen but never makes it to the Sharp HDMI and that’s where I want to see it.

I have preferences set to NTSC 8 bit in all instances and the Eclipse out is set to NTSC, HDMI, Component, but I’ve also tried the one other setting which is NTSC, HDMI, Composite and S-video. I see nothing at any of these settings except I do see my second computer monitor desktop on the Sharp if I have “enable video desktop” checked.

    Thanks,
    Steve

January 15, 2008 at 4:26 pm in reply to: AES on BNC

Does anyone know how to wire AES audio from an XLR (3 conductors) to a BNC (two conductors)? I can see two separate channels on an XLR (two hots with a common ground) but how to they accomplish 2-channels of AES into one BNC connector (only two conductors)? Do you use Belden 2-conductor shielded from the XLR and somehow go to Belden coax for the BNC? I’d appreciate a wiring schematic if someone has one.
    Thanks!

WE got two of them today from B&H. They will go into our two FCP Suites We’ve waited four months so I hope they are “good” things.

How about HDV out of the firewire like the Sony HDV-Z1U. Can it also be captured with no additional hardware?

Adolpho, Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me if AE for Mac would be able to accept the DVCProHD720p60 files just as they are since QT Mac does have the right codec?

Are you guys talking about running the Mac version of AE on an intel Mac or the Windows version of AE on an intel Mac?

Well none of these were there. I don’t know what happened to them but they were gone. Luckily it has always been my philosophy to buy two of everything. That paid off again. The other Mac Pro had all the codecs in the right QT folder. We thought could we just copy those over to the other Mac? Thinking Windose we thought surely not, but then again the Mac likes to make things simple so we copied them all to a floder, sent the folder over the ethernet to the other Mac, copied them all into the right folder and VOILA!!! It all worked perfectly! What a relief and what a testimony for Mac Pro and OSX.
And certainly many thanks to you Jeremy for giving us the solution!
    Thanks to all.

Now we’re wondering how to make AE 7 for Windows accept these same files. It’s apparently missing some codecs also because they get no where fast! We need to make these high def files SD without letterboxiing (which FCP seems to insist on doing) and we don’t know how to do that in FCP so are trying to load the files into AE7, I thought it took HiDef but apparently not. Oh well, another day andother thread! Ha!

There are 6 codec components in the QT folder but they all start with AVID……

We are trying to convert from Avid to FCP and our editors found these codecs that allow us to see our Avid projects on the Mac, but they didn’t erase anything that was there so I guess the FCP codecs never got into QuickTime.

I installed this software myself as admin and the computers open up with no log in needed so any ooperator is automatically the admin.

Is there way to look and see what codecs are installed in FCP? I see the list of “Easy Setups” on the system drive and it looks like they are all there.

What’s curious is that If I open a new FCP project and select the easy setup for DVCProHD720p60 which is what these client files are, when I hit OK I immediately get a drop down box that says, “Where is your DVCProHD720p60 camera or deck input(not detected). Where is your DVCProHD720p60 output?”

So I assume its looking for hardware or a hardware card that I don’t have and it doesn’t do the setup for the codec because of what it can’t find.

I’m really baffled by this. Any ideas?
