  • Can AE7Win accept footage from DVCProHD720p60?

We have HVX200 footage on a hard drive that opens in FCP and QT on the mac. We haven’t learned enough yet (moving over from Avid) to get this footage to SD in FCP so we are trying to load it into AE7Pro on the Avid Windows computer. Dead end! All we get is a white screen as though there were no codecs in AE7 that could handle this format.

I thought AE7 could handle HiDef. Do we need a codec for our Win QT in order for WinAE7 to work with this footage?

How can we get this into Win AE7Pro–we don’t have Mac AE yet! I’m guessing that on the Mac, AE would use the QT codecs that do have the DVCProHD720p60 codecs on board. Are there versionos of these for the Windows QT and AE7Pro?

Thanks for your help. We’re learning FCP as fast as we can but the clients don’t have much patience. Ha!

The Quicktime version of the DVCPRO HD codec is not available at all on Win.
Even if you had a Windows codec for standard P2 MXF files, it wouldn’t help at all with FCP’s Quicktime DVCPRO HD files.

You need to export from FCP or even QT player using an alternative Quicktime codec, like PhotoJPEG, Animation, etc.

Adobe announced that they would add native P2/DVCPRO HD support for their video products as soon as possible, even this year hopefully. But that still wouldn’t help with FCP’s way of wrapping DVCPRO HD in Quicktime containers.

Adolpho, Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me if AE for Mac would be able to accept the DVCProHD720p60 files just as they are since QT Mac does have the right codec?

Absolutely. But it’s not Quicktime on the Mac by itself. The DVCPRO HD codec for QT is installed by Final Cut Studio. So if you have FCS on your system, AE (and other Adobe apps) will be able to use DVCPRO HD just fine.

You’ll have to buy the DVCProHD CODEC and utilities from a third party developer like Cineform (https://cineform.com/products/Aspect-Prospect.htm) DVFilm (https://www.dvfilm.com/products.htm) or Main Concept (https://www.mainconcept.com/site/?id=17958).

Neither of those will provided support for DVCPRO HD in Quicktime containers, as captured and handled by Final Cut Studio.
