All the client needs to do is install the latest version of QuickTime to solve compatibility problems.

As with any photography, lighting is essential. Set up more lights for correct exposure. Try playing with the DRS on the 170.

If you are trying to open a project, move your media to a different location and open the project. If it opens, you have a corrupt clip in your sequence.

Another problem may be a conflict with a plug-in.

The correct workflow is to convert the MPEG 4 to ProRes before importing into FCP. You can use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip. Each will give you equal results.
