Just realize that you are not getting an accurate video output from the monitor. It makes a great computer display.

This is no best. Your damage has already been done.

No.
Correct way:
Choose a sequence setting that matches the majority of your clips.
There are 2 types of wide screen. Anamorphic and native.It is acceptable to have 4:3 and 16:9 in the same sequence without distorting.

You have to do the usual troubleshooting. Trash your preferences. Invest in Pro Maintenance Tools from Digital Rebellion.
You mentioned “New Mac” What are the specs?
Does it crash if you open a new project?
Temporarily move your media from its original location and open the project. If it doesn’t crash, you have corrupt media in your project.

I’ve always used the Note 2 route. You can use any i/o device that connects to your computer. MXO2, Io HD, Io Express and Io XT work very well. Ask the EIC for an SDI in and out. For in, you have different options. Program feed, dirty feed, etc. All you need to do is tell the EVS operator when you’re ready to play back. When you need to record, open up log and capture set to non-controlable device and hit capture now.
Another workflow I have been using is pre-ediitng and exporting ProRes files for a KiPro. You can record to playback from the KiPro via SDI.

Your deck does not take a ProRes input. That is why it does not see it.
You will need a capture i/o device to cross convert your footage from ProRes to HDV.Steve Eisen

Your power will fluctuate. It’s fine for your laptop because of battery but your hard drives are going to take a hit. I had a similar experience last month. The generator drop too low a few times and knocked off power on the hard drive. Not a fun experience.
If all is not worked out before hand, you will have a bumpy ride. On that note, I’ve not had issues when editing while someone else was driving. if you’re in the interstate, you should be fine. Urban areas may give you a challenge.

If you have the MXO2 (original) you just need to purchase the Thunderbolt adapter.
Your other option is to use the IO HD and get the Thunderbolt to FW adapter.I also have done sports highlights from an OB truck using both the IO HD (via FW800) and my MXO2 (via Express34) with my 2011 17″ MBP.

Do not learn bad habits in workflow. Never log and transfer from your SD card unless you are in a rush situation. Offload the card to multiple hard drives then log and transfer from one of the hard drives.
