I have tried both and I get better results using the 3D Matrix Plug-in from CHV. Export the file into AE and the results are amazing!

If you want to work with FCP, you need to a HFS+ HD. It is easier to go from Mac to PC than PC to Mac.

I do not believe you can use the camera to capture. You will need to get a DVCAM deck.
