June 1, 2009 at 2:19 am in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 — 2 Problems

i had both of these problems with Vegas Pro 8.1 64bit. when i upgraded to 9.0 64bit trial, those problems went away, and now the only big problem I have is that whenever I try to use the trimmer, it locks up (but the rest of Vegas continues to work fine). So I’ve learned to not use the trimmer and when i finish this project i will probably switch to Adobe Premiere Pro.

So try out Vegas 9.0 trial version. Also, what are your system specifications?

I have NOD32 antivirus on Vista 64bit and it is not preventing me from being able to run Vegas 9 trial. I am having problems with the Trimmer but that’s the biggest issue I am having.

Has anyone else had the problems with the trimmer freezing up? If so, what hardware/OS etc are you using?

I hope Sony addresses this soon. I have the trial version of 9.0 64bit and I’m running out of time with it. I don’t want to spend all that money to have a program that doesn’t work correctly for me.

    Thanks!

Thanks Jon. One concern I have is that P2 could be a bit arcane– i’ve never really heard of it and I’m afraid I’ll end up with a format I can’t use in other NLEs and players. Is there anything else such as an AVI or MPG that is a decent alternative?

    Thanks!

    I’m not an expert, however:

I’m pretty sure that the problem has nothing to do with needing a G-RAID drive. I don’t have any projects that require 170+ clips, so I don’t know if this works on my system.

One thing you could do is break your project into separate projects, render them separately, then stitch the rendered material together in a separate master project. That might work for you. Sorry if my advice is not helpful.

while i am not an expert on vegas yet, i am an expert on computers in general. the size of your hard drive and the number of temporary files are good things to check but more likely, you should look at:

remove programs running in the background. go to start|run and type msconfig, and see all the programs that are starting up in the background when you boot. some may be crapware that can be disabled, like qttask.exe and jusched.exe.

make sure all your hard drives have at least 25% free space and defragment them all completely.

try disabling your antivirus software temporarily.

try updating your video card drivers, motherboard bios, and other key drivers.

if none of that works, consider re-installing windows from scratch or buying a new computer.

the 1s and 0s just get confused sometimes and spoil the fun for us humans.

regarding vegas itself, i am having all sorts of stability and slowness problems and i am looking forward to trying Vegas Pro 9… i also suspect maybe vegas pro and radeon video cards don’t always like eachother but i dont have much proof yet.

i am particularly interested in the part about improved stability in 64bit – do you think that applies to the constant crashing i’m having, especially while using the trimmer?

  • Thanks for replying.

I updated the radeon video drivers and now it seems a little less crashy– not sure yet.

But it still freezes up when I try to use the trimmer after choosing “open parent media in trimmer” from the timeline.

I am having several issues with Vegas Pro, the crashes is just one of them. I’m very tech so I’m pretty sure my machine is stable otherwise.

Any other ideas of what settings in Vegas or my rig I should check?

    Thanks!
