    All,

I see some other posters complaining about crashes and lockups– is anyone running Vegas Pro 8.1 64bit on Vista 64bit without problems? If so, what brand of video card are you running?

I am going to try upgrading my video drivers because they are a bit old, maybe check for other driver updates too. I get freezes lockups and crashes all the time in Vegas Pro, during editing, prerendering, rendering, playback, randomly, etc. I basically hit save all the time now.

    My spec:

Vista 64bit Ultimate, Intel Core i7 940 (quad core), dual Radeon 8500 video cards, 6GB RAM, Asus P6T mobo, various other software installed including most major NLE’s trial editions, but not much in the way of spyware or other TSRs hanging me up.

    Thanks!

Yes, and I’m using an ASUS nVidia Geforce 8600GT SILENT/HTDP/256M. It has no fan, just heat pipes (I need a silent PC for doing tutorials).

That is always a good plan of action. This is just my personal experience, but ATI has some of the worst drivers I’ve ever had the displeasure to have used. I buy nothing but nVidia cards now and I can’t remember the last time I had any drivers problems.

    Thanks for replying.

I updated the radeon video drivers and now it seems a little less crashy– not sure yet.

But it still freezes up when I try to use the trimmer after choosing “open parent media in trimmer” from the timeline.

I am having several issues with Vegas Pro, the crashes is just one of them. I’m very tech so I’m pretty sure my machine is stable otherwise.

Any other ideas of what settings in Vegas or my rig I should check?

    Thanks!

You can go into the troubleshooting tab in the video advanced properties and turn down hardware assist. If the problem stops, it’s definitely your video drivers. If not, it’s probably something else.
