Hello. I am considering switching to Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 from Vegas Pro except for one reason – I really want to be able to tag my files with metadata such as comments and ratings, and premiere pro doesn’t write metadata to avchd. (No other NLEs do either…)

So can anyone recommend a good intermediate file format that premiere pro (and other apps) can read/write metadata to, and is great for editing in NLEs and can support decent amateur dvd and blu-ray output? disk space is not as much of an issue as those other requirements.

And on top of that, can you recommend a good way to batch-convert files (in multiple directories) to this new format?

    Thanks!

Adobe Media Encoder can convert multiple clips for you, set up the 1st conversion to (whatever codec/settings) and the place you want it saved to. The rest of the media you add will then follow the same export settings and Save Path as the last one.
I’ve found P2 export to convert AVCHD footage for my laptop to be a great format to work with.
Metadata can be added directly in PPro CS4 and it is embedded to the clip and can be viewed in the other CS4 products that have the metadata option.

Thanks Jon. One concern I have is that P2 could be a bit arcane– i’ve never really heard of it and I’m afraid I’ll end up with a format I can’t use in other NLEs and players. Is there anything else such as an AVI or MPG that is a decent alternative?

    Thanks!
