I have been on the forum a few times and done lots of searches. I also checked the Sony forums, probably 60 hours of time into just trying to get my new laptop VISTA 64 to import all of my video files and I’m wondering if it is just not going to work 🙁 I felt especially defeated when the free download Vegas Pro 64 bit compatible stopped recognizing new video files after clip 170. My older desktop XP system vegas movie studio 6 did FINE! My last DVD project had 900 clips and was 40 minutes long and there were none of these problems.

I am not a computer person so to be downloading things to try to “tweak” the system so it MAY OR MAY NOT work for me I have no understanding of. I’ve called Sony and Dell MANY times and its like Sony can’t make any suggestions because of Vista 64 and the Dell technicians don’t understand video editing.

Any further suggestions from anyone? Is it too much to expect my laptop to be able to do this? Should I switch to a different software? Lastly, I read that some editors feel you should have a designated hard drive JUST for video files and nothing else. They suggested a G-RAID?

(see the lengthy description below) 🙂
    DELL STUDIO XPS 16 LAPTOP

2.53GHZ 8770 Intel duo core processor
    4GB RAM
    500GB hard drive
    ATI Radion Graphic card
    Vista 64 Bit operating system

SONY HARD DRIVE CAMCORDER (NOT HIGH DEFINITION)
    DCR-SR85

Transfer video to computer, clip and name MPEG-2 files using Picture Motion Browser software that came with the camcorder.

Then import the clips to Sony Vegas Software.

SONY VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO PLATINUM 9.0b EDITING SOFTWARE
Says it is supported by Vista 32 BIT but many people are able to get it to work on the 64 BIT.

I previously made 6 DVDs 30-40 minutes in length on my Dell desktop Windows XP that has a single processor ?3.1GHZ 2GB RAM and 250GB hard drive on Sony Vegas Studio 6 using a digital 8 Sony camcorder and captured the video straight to Vegas- NO PROBLEM!

Now when I try to import the video files, I get to around 100 clips and then the system crashed. Sometimes the Microsoft Runtime C++ Error popped up sometimes it just says a problem has occurred and the program is shutting down. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same problems occur.

Sony Forums people suggested downloading free Quick time and K Lite codecs but that didn’t help.

SONY VEGAS PRO VERSION 9 SOFTWARE

    64 Bit compatible

I downloaded a free 30 days trial to see what would happen. I get to 170 clips imported into my project and then it can no longer “find” any more clips even if I click on them. Once something popped up about the memory and suggested turning off background processes on the computer. Still no better.

    With My Regards!

    I’m not an expert, however:

I’m pretty sure that the problem has nothing to do with needing a G-RAID drive. I don’t have any projects that require 170+ clips, so I don’t know if this works on my system.

One thing you could do is break your project into separate projects, render them separately, then stitch the rendered material together in a separate master project. That might work for you. Sorry if my advice is not helpful.

    [system information:]
    vista 64bit ultimate
    vegas pro 64bit
    core i7 940
    asus p6t mobo
    6gb corsair ram
    radeon 4850
    2x velociraptor 300gb

    Hi,

I have experienced the same problem. Hope Sony will fix it.

I started with a Windows-xp system and Vegas Movie Maker 8.0. It was a very stable program/system and I never had a hanging problems. It took a long time to render and the professional Vegas Pro program had some features that I wanted, so I updated to Pro Version and a new computer.

I bought a Gateway Quad computer (DX4710) with Windows Vista-64 to speed up the rendering (to use with my Vegas Pro 8.1c). Also had Vegas 8.0c for use with Vista-32. My camera is a Sony Camcorder that stores video on a memory stick. Each movie clip (8 to 10 seconds) creates a unique video file. This means that for a 30 minute video, there maybe 100 to 300 clips. When I try to import them into Vegas 8.1, the program would hang after about 40 clips (about 10 to 15 minutes of video). I couldn’t tell if it was a problem with Sony Vegas or Windows Vista-64 or the PC. I bought more memory (originally 6 gb) to exchange and/or add, it didn’t help. I also exchanged and added new hard drives, t didn’t help. Also reloaded Windows Vista-64 and Sony Vegas. Although the main use of the computer was for Vegas, no other programs gave any problems. I even created a dual boot system and installed Vista-32 (to use with Vegas 8.0) and Vista-64 (with Vegas 8.1). BOTH Hung in the same way.

Since Sony has now come out with Vegas Pro 9.0b, I upgraded to this level hopping they have fixed the problem in the new release (9.0b). I seems to work a little better, but still has the same hanging problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there any word from Sony on this problem. It seems like many others have the same problem and maybe they will fix it in version 9.0c.

Thanks for any updates on the problem or suggestions.
