Desktop Preview while capturing HDV footage is disabled. You can either preview the video on your camcorder’s LCD, or try a little program called HDVSplit. You can find it here…

We switched from Media Composer to Premiere Pro. Though we didn’t use a Nitris DX, we did use a Mojo I/O from Avid, and I’d seriously doubt that you could connect Avid specific hardware to another editing platform.

If the sequences are in the same project, simply select the clips from the source sequence, then switch to the other sequence and paste. As in Avid, you need to make sure that the destination track on the timeline are selected before pasting. Also, remember that pasting occurs at the CTI’s current location.

Try setting the Multiplexing to MPEG2. It’s under the Multiplexer tab in the Export dialog.

We go to neither. Save the time and possible transcode issues by importing your PPro sequence(s) directly into Encore.

1080p is not a measure of quality, but simply a measure of the frame size. Data rate is the main arbiter of quality. So, you may be losing ‘quality’ on your initial transcode to MPEG, and then another transcode when Encore transcodes again to MPEG-2 to burn onto the DVD. It would be helpful to post some info such as your transcode settings in both Adobe Media Encoder as well as those in Encore. Also, what’s the runtime of your full program? If it’s long, Encore will adjust the data rate for your encode to place the most amount on a single DVD with the highest quality(data rate). That data rate will be a lot higher for a 30 minute program as compared to a 90 minute one.
Why do the initial MPEG transcode? CS5 should be able to handle NXCAM footage from what I read.

If the video opens in Premiere, it’s supported. If not, you’ll get an error dialog stating so.
My first guess would be that the playback resolution in the Project Monitor is set low, which will cause blocking and artifact during playback. You can check this by right-clicking in the monitor and select ‘Playback Resolution’.

That’s what we use for portable storage, but Acer doesn’t list an ExpressCard slot, and photos indicate that there isn’t one. It’s really being deprecated, especially since USB 3.0, but it looks like this model is about 2 years old. Seems like it would still have a PCMCIA slot.

Depending on the version of Windows installed, coupled with the version of Adobe Premiere installed, your experience will range from nearly impossible, to barely tolerable.
Acer doesn’t show a firewire port on this laptop, so you’ll be relegated to a USB 2.0 drive.

We are currently archiving our library of BetaSP tapes, and we’re using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro and a Matrox MX02 Mini. Both work well with Premiere Pro, but we’ve found that the native capture apps do well also.
