Thanks Kevin, but I should have mentioned that I’m on Windows 7. Also, this is specific to only one project, so I doubt that it’s device related.

Whew! I thought I was being denied a function because I was PC-centric!
We just had a project open with all of the media offline, and there was no request to link to the media during project start. Never had that happen before. I even tried starting some auto-save versions, and still no offline media warning and option to find the media on startup, so we’re having to do it manually.

How do you re-link media in the Media Browser? Is this a Mac-centric task? I have no option to do so in CS6 Windows. I do have the option in the Project Panel, except re-linking there merely re-links one clip at a time.

Once you’ve created your captions in AE, they’re completely editable either directly in AE or back in Subtitle Workshop. I recently had to do just that on a project. Still. If you’re more comfortable with the method you’re used to, stick with it.

Yes there is! We use this workflow, and it adds quite a bit of automation.
First, we’ve not had good success with Premiere Pro’s Speech Analysis. You’re experience may be better, but we’ve found that the time we spend editing the transcript that is created is better spent doing other tasks, and simply send the audio to a transcriptions service. I know that it can seem less expensive to do it yourself, but please keep in mind that your time IS worth money, and you have to weigh it’s value.
Next, once you have your transcript in hand, use a program like Subtitle Workshop to develop a subtitle file(SRT). There are many such programs out there, but we like Subtitle Workshop, plus it’s free.
Then use this most excellent After Effects plugin, ‘pt_ImportSubtitles’, which can be found easily by Googling. It’s only $25. ‘pt_ImportSubtitles’ will directly import the SRT file created by Subtitle Workshop, giving you a timeline of the subtitles to then place directly over your video, either by rendering a separate video file, or via Dynamic Linking.

Ultra Key was a product of the former Serious Magic, which was acquired by Adobe in 2006. Ultra Key was a stand alone keyer that touted “vector keying”, and many,(me included) swore by it. Former Serious Magic alums Karl Soule and Karl Miller became Adobe Evangelists, and assured everyone that Ultra Key was being incorporated into Premiere. Eventually they succeeded.
You are so correct, Ultra Key can seriously reduce your time spent keying, as if by magic – pun intended.

We’ve been using green screens from EEFX for years, and have never had a problem with seams.
While no substitute for proper lighting techniques and the overall condition of the green screen, keying software had gotten a lot better in the past few years, and much more forgiving.
Also, one of the best green screen techniques to learn is the “Super-Tight Junk Mattes” tutorial found here on the COW.
