Clips have gone off line

Right click on one of the off line clips and choose the option to relink.

Hi Tom

I don’t seem to have that facility on my mac. Have right clicked but don’t see any words saying relink. It is grayed out in the toolbar headed Project

I just replicated your process. When I moved the clip to another area on the computer it went offline. When I right clicked on that unlinked clip in the Project Directory area there was the option to Link Media. Not sure why you are not seeing that as well.

I may be stuffed. I tried your method and clicked link but could locate because on importing my media I changed the names of the clips for ease of editing. Am I stuffed? Couldn’t find any locate.

I dont think changing the name of clips after they have been imported to a project is a good thing to do. Thats how Premiere knows who/what and where they are.

Not sure how you would work around this one. Maybe someone else does 😀

Are you right clicking the clips in teh timeline or the browser? You MUST right click the clips in your Media Browser. CS Next finally adds the re-link in the timeline, but prior to that you have to do it in the Media Browser.

Once you point to the first clip, everything else should reconnect on its own. I move media back and forth between my home system and the office all the time. Should be as simple as select the first clip and everything else should reconnect.

Actually I have somehow managed to link most of the clips. It is just the AE adobe link ones that I can’t relink now. Is it possible to link clips that were graded in AE and via Adobe Dynamic link? If not don’t worry. I have probably only lost a couple of hours’ work now.

Good for you. Have you tried just re-dragging the AE comps back into PrP then using the Replace Clip function to put that clip back on the timeline where it needs to be. I havent had problems with unlinked DL AE clips so never had to relink them.

How do you re-link media in the Media Browser? Is this a Mac-centric task? I have no option to do so in CS6 Windows. I do have the option in the Project Panel, except re-linking there merely re-links one clip at a time.

It’s in the Project Panel, I probably said Media Browser reverting to my old FCP days. If you highlight a whole series of clips, it should bring everything back online once it finds the first clip.

Or quit the project and when it re-launches, it’ll ask you to find an offline clip. That should also trigger it to find the rest of your clips once it finds one.
