We had Boris Continuum Complete for years on Premiere Pro, but haven’t kept it upgraded since CS3, but AFAIK it still works well.
Which one…Williams or Cummings? Williams for me.

Luckily, the new Premiere Pro CC will include support for SCC cation files. Until then, here is the method we’ve been using which automates quite a bit of the process.
First, you need a transcript of your videos. You may already have this. We’ve had poor success with Premiere Pro’s Speech Analysis, so we send our videos out to a transcription service.
Next, once you have your transcript in hand, use a program like Subtitle Workshop to develop a subtitle file(SRT). There are many such programs out there, but we like Subtitle Workshop, plus it’s free.
Then use this most excellent After Effects plugin, ‘pt_ImportSubtitles’, which can be found easily by Googling. It’s only $25. ‘pt_ImportSubtitles’ will directly import the SRT file created by Subtitle Workshop, giving you a timeline of the subtitles to then place directly over your video, either by rendering a separate video file, or via Dynamic Linking.
If you need to edit the subtitles, simply edit the SRT file back in Subtitle Workshop and reimport in After Effect with ‘pt_ImportSubtitles’.
This is by far the easiest and most automated workflow that we’ve been able to find. Once you quickly get used to it, you’ll be amazed at how fast you can add subtitles, or ‘open’ captions.

The inclusion of the ability to add SCC file support for captions directly in the timeline is a boon. We’ve been using a fairly simple and automated method to add subtitles using After Effects, but this would greatly enhance that workflow.

Perhaps my system just isn’t as “well equipped” as it should be, but I’ve never experienced this with AVCHD media. True, a clip on it’s own plays back smoothly, but drop a 3rd party plug-in on it, Magic Bullet Looks for instance, a plug-in we use quite a bit, and we have to drop the playback res to 1/4 before it’ll even THINK about playing without lag.

Does the Mac version of CS6 include Adobe Media Encoder? I confess that I don’t even know.
If it does, then add your timecode burn to an Adjustment Layer above everything in your timeline, then export directly to whatever format and size you need. No need for intermediate encodes. If you have a good CUDA card, and encode to H.264, your encode will be swift.

Recently had the same situation on a PC. It seemed to be related to a faulty activation, making Premiere think it was in Trial Mode, in which AVCHD files aren’t supported, however some earlier imported AVCHD files were recognized. Also, I noticed that an upgrade was available, which was only visible in the Application Manager, not in any alert notification. After installing that upgrade, suddenly we were able to import AVCHD files again.

Many of the AE Templates on Videoblocks are also sold on Revostock. The problem I have with Videoblocks is that they are based on a monthly fee, whereas Revostock and most other outlets are a per item purchase scenario. If you need lots and lots of stock, then $79 for unlimited downloading may be best. However, if you only need an occasional download, then paying per item may make more sense.
