I’ve been using Key Light in FCP and AE for the past couple of years with great results, 80% of our project material is green screen. We just switched our edit suites over to CS6 and the workflow of jumping back and forth to AE for chroma-key just seemed tedious. I noticed Ultra Key in the video effects list of Premier. My first thought, “Cute, a standard chroma keyer trying to be cool with a big name”, but I tried it anyway.

    WOW! WOW! WOW!

Ultra Key is practically the one-click wonder tool I’ve only dreamed about. I have never keyed stuff so fast and so easy. Even the fine little fly-away hairs don’t get clipped and have no green halo. Needless to say, I am impressed and my work just got a whole lot easier. If you haven’t tried it, do a quick test.

Ultra Key was a product of the former Serious Magic, which was acquired by Adobe in 2006. Ultra Key was a stand alone keyer that touted “vector keying”, and many,(me included) swore by it. Former Serious Magic alums Karl Soule and Karl Miller became Adobe Evangelists, and assured everyone that Ultra Key was being incorporated into Premiere. Eventually they succeeded.

You are so correct, Ultra Key can seriously reduce your time spent keying, as if by magic – pun intended.

ya I was completely blown away by Ultra Keyer on it’s first use
and got me to switch from fcp to cs 5.5 much sooner (I was going to wait it out for cs 6 originally)

I have used Ultra Keyin in Premier and I concur…very nice tool….however when I want to dynamic link the premiere footage into after effects the key isn’t retained. any suggestions for a solution. Seems like a universally recognized key plugin needs to be installed…or something.

I haven’t tried a dynamic link with Ultra Key. Sounds like I hope I don’t have too.
