I agree with David…as a last resort you can try a Color Key where it will let you pick white but it probably will not work.

Depends…what is your project settings? Do you want to do a move on the still?
As for a time-lapse, have you shot one and you want to know how to best get it into FCP?

Yes it can be done in FCP, but easing in and out a move is not easy to do in FCP. FCP only does good with linear moves. If you want it to look smooth I would do it in Motion or AE.

This is what it looks like to me.
Bottom layer – Clip (drop Zone)
All layers above the drop zone are the eight squares set to a gradient that fade on at different times and cover up parts of the bottom layer. Text then goes above that.Hope this helps and best of luck.

DaVinci and Color are for Color Grading and will not help you with the Bad TV look. I would adjust the color of the dancer in Color. It has the capability to just color correct the dancer and not the surroundings with out a mask in a lot of cases. Once you like the color I would import that dancer into Color and only create a mask around the dancer for the part where you have the bad TV effect. That way you are not creating a mask around the full 20 seconds and maybe just the last 1 second where you use the Bad TV filter as a transition or something. Hope I made sense and best of luck.

Some people thought the last version was going to be released in April of 2009 because previous versions where released in April and it wasn’t. It was released in July. How long do you want to wait until you get to sink your teeth into FCP?

Kate, Mark is giving you some great advice. I could hear the inspirational MUSIC as I read. I think it is all about deciding what you want to do and getting as close as you can to that. When I was starting out I had local news contacts from working at a local station. I decided that that is not what I want to do. I thought about just taking a news editing job to pay the bills until something better came along. I got the advice to only do the type of work you want to do which is production house type work. If I do news then everyone will always see me as a news editor with a reel full of news stories. I instead focused on the job hunt and landed my ideal job and I have been happily cutting away since. Best of luck with your tough decisions.

Humm, this sounds very strange. I’ve never experienced this. I’m not sure why it is not exporting the whole clip. Sorry, I’m not sure what to do. I think it is weird that it worked earlier and then all of the sudden it doesn’t.
If you want a transparent background then don’t render it. When you render it FCP places black in the background so it is no longer transparent.
