  • Can you use the text styles and gradients that came with Motion?

  • Yes, I had a very similar problem. When I captured screen shots in a program it made the video clips weird frame rates. In Quicktime it looked great. When I brought it into motion it adjusted the length of the clip so it matched the frame rate. If the frame rate was 15fps it cut the clips length in half. Make sure the clips frame rate matches the project settings. Hope this helps.

While your project is open in Motion click on File, Open Template. Select your template. In the Project Pane or Timeline select all of the groups. Hit Command and C to copy them. Close out, minimize or move the Canvas to show your original canvas. Paste the groups in your original Project Pane or Timeline. Move the groups around to work with your project and you have a template at the start of what you’re currently working on.

    OR

Instead of copying and pasting you can select the groups and drag them over to your other Project Pane or Timeline. This is much easier if you have two monitors. Hope this helps.

April 4, 2008 at 6:31 pm in reply to: Transferring parameters from 1 clip to another.

    John,
If you want to transfer all of the parameters (Properties, Behaviors, Filters…etc.) make a duplicate (select clip and hit the command & D keys) of your clip. Find your new clip in the File Browser and drag it over to your Project Pane or Timeline. Hover the curser over the clip and the curser arrow will turn into a curved/hocked shaped arrow. Drop the new clip on the old and it takes on all of the old clips parameters.

If you want to apply certain parameters such as position select it/them in the Inspector. Drag it over to the clip like you would in the example above. Hope this helps.

April 3, 2008 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Motion tracking HELP!!!

Maybe I didn’t understood the question but it can be done in Motion. This response has a video link to demonstrate what I mean. (I tried to embed the movie and couldn’t get it to work)

This is how it was done:
-Text layer was added above the layer with the Jar movie.
-Match Move behavior added to text layer
-Hit F2 to open Behaviors tab
    -Make sure Type = Transformation
-I attached the anchor to the left handle of the jar
-Select the Scale Adjust button so Position and Scale are enabled
-You will get a new option below Anchor called “Rotation-Scale.”
-Place it on the opposite end of the jar (right handle) so motion can figure out the scale.
-Click on the Analyze button and you’re almost there. It probably wont line up right.
-Select the Anchor Point tool and move it to were the Anchor was set (left jar handle)

Obviously my example will be easier to track due to the almost solid background, but with some work you can have a killer effect. Hope this helps and best of luck.

    Kim,
Click on the disclosure triangle for the “Particle Curves” layer in the Project Pane or Timeline. Click on the disclosure triangle for the “Curve” you want to alter. You will see a “Curve Gradient”. Select it and hit F4 to open up the Particle Cell tab. There will be an option called “Color Mode” which is currently set to “over life”. Change it to “Colorize” and a Color box appears. Select your color and your in business. Hope this is what you were looking for.

I’m already set to render in 8-bit YUV. Can it be a different setting?
