A matter of fact, what is the z distance on your camera?

    Marcel,
Sorry, I’m not ignoring you…I was at a shot all day yesterday. I’m wondering if your text is behind the arrow. I’m saying that you need to make sure that your Z distance on the text is closer to the camera.

By the way, on the text…make sure it’s z distance is one point closer to the camera and not the same z distance as the shape that is covering it up.

It’s not a bug. When you hit the apply button it places the arrow at X=0, Y=0 and Z = 0. If you drag the arrow from the library to your timeline it will be whatever your X, Y and Z is. That’s the same for clips as well.

    Kim,
Sorry for the delayed response. I had my account set up wrong, so I did not get an e-mail showing me your response. Thanks for the kind words, it made my day! I have four more tutorials in the works that I hope you will enjoy when they’re done. I hope your project turned out great.

    Marcel,
I have had very similar experiences with the rectangle tool. In the timeline or project pane click on something (layer) in your canvas that is working properly and check out its X, Y AND Z properties. Then click on the Shape that is not working and see what the X, Y and Z properties are. Make them the same and then you should see your shape…then re-adjust it’s position to taste. Hope this helps.

    Shane,
Thanks for the insight. Trust me, I’d never color correct off of my computer screens or with out my scopes.
Long story short…one of our camera guys says that everything looks great on his waveform monitor and vectorscope. I bring it into FCS 2 and a lot of the footage is not that great. I’m trying to figure if it’s on his end or mine. Thanks for the help.

The fact that Motion can show you results in real time is amazing. When you start doing more complicated stuff it can become to much for any computer. The easiest work around is to RAM Preview your project when you reach that point. Go up to Mark – RAM Preview and select an option. Hope this helps.

It looks like Alex found an answer. I’m posting the answer to what I think the question is for other people who find their way to this thread. Anyways, your gradients and text styles need to be here:

Systems Drive, Library, Application Support, Final Cut Studio, Motion, Library

There you will find a Gradients and Text Styles folder.

If they are not. Click on your desktop and hit the command and F keys. Do a search for one of the gradients or text styles, such as “aqua fade”. Once found, move them to the above mentioned location. If they can’t be found, re-install Motion. Hope this helps.
