having a problem with motion identifying an alpha channel in a clip.

i have created the alpha channel in FCP, alpha set to ‘straight’, i’ve keyed out a white background from the video clip, and in the canvas you can see the checkerboard surrounding my subject (instead of white bg).

when i export and open in Motion, the channel is no longer Alpha.

i’ve tried exporting with the ProRes 4444 codec and the animation codec with the same results.

    anyone?

Make sure the clip is not rendered in FCP.

Set codec to “Millions Color +” The plus is the transparency.

    Best of luck.

    Stephen,

    Have another question for you.

I’m having a strange anomaly exporting a file with this alpha channel, using the animation codec.

I’ve exported a few clips with no problems, but there’s one clip, that it truncates the front end off for some odd reason, a sentence. Very odd that it cuts off the front end and not the back end. I exported it using the ProRes codec and it came through fine (no alpha channel), so it has something to do with that codec i’m assuming. i’ve changed the in point, new sequence, moved further down timeline, extended the clip, all with no luck.

    i’m baffled.

oh yeah, i also re-started FCP and no change.

redacted: it is truncating the front end off all the clips, maybe 3 or 4 seconds?

You have in and out points marked on the FCP time line right?

yes, beginning and end of clip.

ha ha. I was saying, yes, i’ve got the correct in an out points in the timeline 🙂

it’s now cutting off the beginning of the first word, even if i extend the clip to it’s beginning and the timeline “in” point to reflect the change. argh. think this is a bug of some sort.

now I’m having another anomaly where the image won’t show up after exporting with the codec, wt heck? i’m not exporting any different. i only have 8GB of ram (on macbook pro), hope that’s not the issue. seems to be going a bit wonky.

One thing, I’m not rendering the clip before export, per another thread I read on here. should I be rendering first?
