Try turning off your anti-virus.
Are you using an external HDD?
I don’t use the media manager or bins, but have you tried dragging the file to the timeline?
I have heard, not verified, that turning on the renderfarm option, even though you only have one PC, helps with some multi-core issues. I’ve never needed it, so I haven’t tried it.Steve Mann

Can’t help you here, except to hold the door for you.
Vegas has always worked perfectly for me here since Version 3. I can count the number of crashes on one hand, and if I discount those due to system issues (usually old drivers) or operator error, then I am left with … one. One crash in years that I couldn’t explain.
If your system is unstable for Vegas, you won’t be very happy with Premiere, either.

You do realize that an encoded format, like WMV is a lousy editing format?
What is the source media?

Don’t shoot the video so tight that your need that space. Any re-encoding of the video will compromise quality.

Yes. You are basically changing every pixel on every frame, so a hit in quality is to be expected.

It can’t be called “all within Vegas Pro” if you have to buy a few-hundred dollars of background effects. It’s no different than saying “I did this all in Vegas…… plus a little help from Photoshop and After Effects.”
Doing it all in Vegas would mean creating the composite effects using nothing but Vegas tools.

I do this all the time. Terabyte disk, ($85.00), Priority Mail ($8.00). Fed-Ex overnight if you need faster review/turnaround.
