I would like to know what format is best for rendering a standard definition wmv video, that I can then edit without any choppiness.

    Thanks

I also want to be able to watch it with WMP12 and VLC to verify its playback and listen for audio/video lip sync errors.

I currently use WMV to AVI “NTSC DV Widescreen”. They can sometimes take up to 7GB though, however they are editable vs editing a choppy WMV.

    OK, many issues here.
You want to encode a WMV file for editing ????????
You do realize that an encoded format, like WMV is a lousy editing format?
    What is the source media?
Do you know that Vegas is a great tool recording lip-sync (ADR)?

The source media is WMV 740×480 SD
    The audio is 44,100K Stereo

What I want to know is what is the best format to convert and edit this in? I currently use uncompressed NTSC DV Widescreen AVI’s, but they are huge in file size.
