There’s no decision yet on the camera. I am currently using Sony Z1’s in the studio, but I am considering buying another camera specifically for the studio, leaving the Z1’s free for field use. Don’t most HDV cameras have an HDMI output?

Here’s the problem, if all the vob files add up to 20-minutes, ‘one’ of them will certainly be shorter than 20-minutes.
Have you tried importing the DVD from the file menu? (At least I think it’s in the file menu – I’ve never done that). This is the recommended way to import and edit vob files

My error for not looking to see if your machine specs were in your profile. You certainly have good hardware. your problem descriptions, and the new information, still point to a CPU heat issue: The time to crash is variable, it worked before, and it crashes no matter what you are rendering. Your screen shot shows a complex timeline which if it includes a lot of FX, compositing and transitions, you’re working the CPU about as hard as it can be worked. (This is why overclocking is not recommended). Is there anything new in hardware or drivers from when it started failing?

How do you know that the vob file is 20-minutes?
I’ve never used a DVD camcorder, but is there a “finish” command that you may have missed?Steve Mann

Really, everything after “An Exception has occurred.” is useless to everyone but the original programmers, and they don’t read these forums.
You don’t say anything about your computer, hard-disk configuration, memory, O/S, etc, so we really don’t have anything to go on.
Have you tried reinstalling Vegas?
Since you said that WINDOWS crashes when you are rendering, and at approximately the same place – not exactly the same place which would indicate a media problem, the first thing I would suspect is processor overheating.
When did you last clean out the dust bunnies?

That’s interesting. I haven’t found a need for regions so I never noticed that issue. In my test, I selected the region, move the region start, delete the marker, then snap the region marker back to the start of the region. (That’s why I selected the region first).
So, tell me about regions and why would I want to use them?
