Shoot and edit in the highest resolution you can. Years ago I was using Sony PD-150’s and hired a second shooter for a project. He shot in SD on an HDV camera, and even at SD resolution the difference was really noticeable.
I recently had the opportunity to use the Z7 – it’s a really nice camera, and quite likely my next one. (I currently use Z1’s and the menus and operations of the Z7 were very familiar.)

Jeff is your JBOD a BYO or a commercial box? Hard disks are so darned cheap, I have been thinking of building a RAID kit.

Yes, the size in inches means nothing. I could make it 10 PPI or 300 PPI and still be 36X48-inches. Thanks for the correction.
I have done something similar using Photoshop and Vegas, but I am unaware of a size limit in Vegas. Is this documented somewhere?
Time for an experiment…

Make a really big Photoshop file, say – 36″ X 48″, and use any background you want, like a desktop or corkboard. You can also put other stuff (shopping list, post-it note with a phone number, etc) to give perspective.
In Vegas, use event pan/crop and lots of keyframes to move all over the board.
Then, share it with us.

Make sure the USB drives are fast enough to play videos. Test it before he buys a boat load of blanks. (Or use a third-party like disc Makers to make the USB drives for you.)

Kelley – run CHKDSK on the hard drive. Does it report any cross-linked clusters?
If yes, then IMMEDIATELY replace the drive. Disk drives are too cheap to waste time repairing one that is showing possible problems. Next, reformat the old drive and use it for temp or not-critical storage.

This is a known issue within SCS. Unfortunately there’s no commonality of cause and no one can reproduce it. (If they could reproduce it, SCS would fix it). Fortunately, it’s rare.
Personally, I think it’s a Windows issue since a similar problem shows up in other Windows programs.
File a bug report, but don’t expect a quick fix.
In the meanwhile, make frequent backups of the project veg file.

If the microphone -ANY microphone- is on the camera, you *will* get room echo.
