No, I don’t see how the monitor selection could make a difference. The video card is the determinate there.

[Michael O'Connor] “Steve I checked out the link and it has it listed at $189 and $199. Is there any other link for the June special at $133?”
Try this, and replace xxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx with your serial number.

Sony sends a monthly email newsletter to all registered users – this is where I heard of the upgrade special.

You are trying to use DVDA as an editor. Go to the Project Overview window and delete the old media there. Then drag the MPEG file to the Project Overview menu. If there is an AC3 file by the same name, then it follows automatically, though there’s no indication in Project Overview. (You will, however, see the audio waveform in the Timeline window.)

[Darryn Carroll] “When i burned the full project in DVD, it rerendered and took about 3 hours to complete. The video quality seems to have suffered a bit.”
If you are letting DVDA re-encode your video, then yes, this is your problem.
The correct workflow is to encode your MPEG file in Vegas using the appropriate DVDA template. Also encode the AC3 audio file using the same name. Two hours is too long for the default template values, so you will need to decrease the bitrate. There’s a few good bitrate calculators on the web, but this is the one I use the most:

When you change an event velocity, you are forcing the editing program to re-render every frame – again. It already had to decode the frames between the iFrames, all in real time. A tall order for any PC.
As Jeff said, this is what RAM preview was intended for.

If you encode (“Render As”) in uncompressed MOV, you essentially stop the recompression degradation. Of course, the files are huge.
