    Ok Grazie, here ya go! Shot and Edited by yours truly back in 1994. Sony Handycam. Edited using multiple JVC VHS decks, enjoy the multi-generation degradation.

    Despite all that , the source material is still cool and unbeatable.

    The spotter is deceased, the climber is old now, and the boulder has been closed by the selfish necroCultists.

    Example of video editied on multiple VHS decks, edge rip, all the problems you ever want to see!

    Hi;

    How skilled are you with levels and curves?

    This link (one of hundreds) offers some info on that.

    https://www.sundancemediagroup.com/articles/glennchan/levels_in_sony_vegas_part_one.htm

    Also read up on Studio vs Computer RGB.

    Video editing is wonderfully complicated, even the best professional editors will admit there is always more to learn.

    The closest thing to a one-click brainless render for Youtube is the Vegas “Upload to Youtube” option, but even then you have to get the levels correct in your project first.

    Slowly this is coming back to me.

    That template is a custom one I created after tweaking the default template. I think the name is a typo – I meant to name it “AC-w\o Dynamic Range Compression.” The reference to “See help file for details” was also from me, I meant the Sony Vegas help file, which offers info on Dynamic Range Compression.

    Still trying to remember why setting them to “None” helped the levels in DVDA. Will try to test more tonight.

    Ok, now that you have clarified that the Preview is not smooth, we know that you are just encountering the common problem of your system (CPU. graphics card, etc. ) not being able to keep up.

    Lots of threads on this frustrating problem.

  • Hi Sam;

    Some questions:

    * Does it happen no matter what the source material?
    * What are the project properties?
    * what are the specs of your system and video card?
    * Does it happen when all GPU acceleration is disabled?
    * Does it happen regardless of the rendering template?

    Also, submit a support ticket to Sony Creative ASAP – they take forever to respond sometimes, so best to get that started right away.

    January 31, 2014 at 3:23 am in reply to: Descrepency between audio levels SVP/DVDA

    OK, now I am stumped, because on my old computer, which I still have and now use as my regular workhorse computer, when I select the Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro (*.ac3) drop-down, there are two choices: Stereo DVD and AC-w Dynamic Range Compression. I get that option in both SVP11 and SVP10 on the old computer.

    On my new computer, that template is missing! It is the one that can fix the levels problem.

    Now I am ripping my hair out trying to remember if I did anything special to make that template appear.

    grr….

    Giles, had the same problem, used to drive me crazy, but there is an easy fix.

    I’m not at my Vegas computer right now, so this is from memory.

    First, be sure to render the video stream separate from the audio. For audio use .ac3 pro. When you open DVDA, if the .ac3 file is in the same folder as the .mpg, it will auto-link the audio.

    In the audio template for the AC3 Pro render, somewhere there are tabs or settings for gain. One of them will make the audio on the DVD better match what you hear in SVP.

    I’ll check this out tonight and give you the exact setting.

    Colin, that camera uses the AVCHD 2.0 codec, which is capable of 1080 50p at 28 Mbps. Are you creating 50p or 25p files?

    Vegas 11 can handle the “double frame rate stuff” , but you might need to play with smart resample. In the US, that coded produces 1080 60p at 28 Mbps; I use those files quote often in Vegas 11. With smart resample they will play at real speed; but you can set Vegas to also play them at 50% for slow-mo.

    When you say “smooth”, are you referring to the preview not keeping up with the project render framerate, which has probably defaulted to 24.97 (or close I don’t have Vegas installed on this computer)?

    It might just be that your computer and graphics card cant keep up in Preview and is skipping frames; try disabling auto-resize of the preview window and reducing the resolution to Good quarter or Preview quarter and see if that helps.
