    HI;

    Sounds like a variant of the Studio RGB vs Computer RGB demon. Read up on that. Do you know how to use the scopes in Sony Vegas Pro (SVP) ?

    Maybe while you are taking Stephen’s advice to read up, this is what you need to do:

    Picture 1: This is what I call a Control, this is what you posted, ie your Original ScreenGrab, BUT WITHOUT the Sony Levels Correction to swap to the MEDIA domain:

    Picture 2: Your Original ScreenGrab WITH the Sony Levels FX preset Studio RGB to Computer RGB to bring the Video towards the MEDIA Levels domain:

    What you need to do is to apply that SONY Levels FX and select the StudioRGB to ComputerRGB to the Video/”Film”, as here:-

    You can now see that your Film Black is adjusted to your Media Black – if that’s what you want?

    Here’s another “tweak” – I’ve also got my External 2nd Monitor set to “Studio RGB to Computer RGB” – not a lot of people do that!

    I hope that will assist you, while you are “reading”.

    Thanks, but have I all the time add this FX to every clip in my timeline? Is there any easier way?

    I would like to render mp4, but now when I do it (without level FX), my black is too deep. Deeper than if I render as wmv… Why it’s like this? It seems than mp4 change my video to the darker.

    You’ve asked how to make the “Film” Black the same as the “Graphic” Black. That’s the option you requested. Now what is the final look you want, yes? Now where and on what device/player are you going to deliver it? And you are now finding out that different templates provide different results.

    I can’t advise you any more on what you want to do with your Media, that’s your decision.

    Here’s what I do: I try to make any/all graphics comply with the majority of my work and mostly that would mean, of course, video. I then decide where and how my work will be seen: DVD, YT, Computer LCD or TV LCD. I then apply the levels corrector that will deliver what I want. It’s the only “sane” way I know I can go forward.

    If anybody has any other way to offer please step forward. I’m always willing to learn.

    Cheers

    I hope I’m not misunderstanding the question, but if I am, ignore the following advice.

    Do your whole project with one target in mind, be it black=0 or black=16. Make the appropriate filter change, if necessary, when you render, by putting the effect on the master output — the effect button for that is on the preview window.

    In my case, for example, I have a variety of source media. I adjust them all so black is 0 – ‘media black’ as you’re calling it. If I’m rendering for something that expects black to be lighter, like YouTube, I’ll put the “Computer RGB to Studio RBG” Levels filter on the master output at render time.

    Thanks for this tip, I had forgotten about “Master Output”.
