Hi Francois,
while not as quick as I had hoped for, this is still far better than selecting every last key frame individually!
Thanks,

I have the app, but it did not fix the timeline problem!
I just started a new project and dropped 13 clips into the timeline. Six of these edits show a gap like in the screen shot. The remaining ones are fine.

Hi Graham,
sorry for not replying sooner.
A screen grab would only show black, so no need to post it here, I suppose. There simply is a tiny gap in between every clip. And yes, all clips have the same specs. They were all dragged (CTRL-A) into the timeline after they came straight out of the camera (also a Sony). So they have not been messed with in any way.
Btw, today it did not happen. It wasn’t a one-off, though, since I’ve seen it happen before. Perhaps it is hit and miss and has to do with whatever else is going on in the system at the time, phases of the moon…

So what happened? Can you tell us if the problem was fixed so we can all refer to this post when we have a simliar problem (like I did the other day, but that was fixed after a restart).
Thanks,

I finally figured that I had missed your #3 check originally. All goes well now. Thanks again,

I know this is likely coming too late, but here I go anyway…
The reason the fingerprinting method fails is because the noise is not uniform enough. I would proably just cut the bumps out manually. If there are hundreds of them, however, I’d use a compressor. The bumps are much louder than your audio signal which makes it that much more obtrusive. If you clip the level of the bumps to the level of the audio (with look-ahead!) then it’s probably much better already.

If your audio level is well above the noise level, you can simply use a noise gate.
If the noise level is too high or there are too many gaps in the audio (creating an obnoxious on/off pumping of noise), you need to filter the noise by creating a fingerprint or sample from the noise and then process the audio so that the fingerprinted sample is extracted. Such a process can be made with various tools, such as Wavelab. There are other tools, but I am not aware of any that are free.
Good luck,
