    Hello all,

I’m hoping you can shed some light on this: I recorded an interview using a Zoom H1 and had it sitting on the table between us. Maybe it was our elbows on the table or something, but it caused a rattle/bump sound throughout the audio.

You can hear the rattle in the audio clip here:

Here’s what it looks like in Audition:

Thankfully, there is a rattle that occurs cleanly where there is no talking (the first red square); however, when I attempted to capture the noise print and use Noise Reduction, it was barely affected. Boosting the reduction to 100% took a bit of it out but, obviously, destroyed the interview audio.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I know this is likely coming too late, but here I go anyway…

The reason the fingerprinting method fails is because the noise is not uniform enough. I would proably just cut the bumps out manually. If there are hundreds of them, however, I’d use a compressor. The bumps are much louder than your audio signal which makes it that much more obtrusive. If you clip the level of the bumps to the level of the audio (with look-ahead!) then it’s probably much better already.
