[Aindreas Gallagher] “you want a PPRO to AE and back workflow. isn’t that what’s missing here?”
Yes
But that missing feature already exploded several times on creative cow (especially the Motion Forum), no need to spark a new fire.

[Shawn Miller] “Sorry, that just isn’t true, AE ships with 4 particle systems – One of them (CC Particle World) is a 3D system.”
The particles cannot be composed with other layers in 3D, and only “virtually” exist on a 2D plane, while they exist in real 3D space in Motion.
[Shawn Miller] “No, AE uses expressions…. which are extremely powerful. The only real limits are imposed by your ability to learn scripting and your imagination. “
You cannot drive particles with expressions in AE, while you can use behaviors to drive them in Motion.

Hehe. True.
The 1-Star reviews in the German App Store are now stagnating while 5 Stars still coming in. The pros are through. It’s the rise of the herpderps and recent reviews now read like “I don’t understand the 1 star reviews. You can cut videos with it, what more do you expect? 5 Stars!”

You can archive something similar in Motion using a replicator.
You create a very tiny white shape, use it to create a replicator, use “Image” for the replicator shape and “Take Image Color” for the Cell Controls. Then steer up the amount of cells, add some forces to move the particles, and you’re good to go

I’m saying that because AE cannot do 3D particles, and it does not have replicators or behaviors. It’s very limited in that regard unless you purchase plugins like particular for a few hundred dollars.

Hmm..
Ok next thing I’d try is opening and resaving it in Fireworks or Pixelmator 😀

I’m not sure, BUT I think it can have something to do with the bit resolution of the .psd file. Try opening it Photoshop and when saving it again look for a setting where you can adjust this. I don’t own Photoshop so I don’t know where to find it, but I think I’ve read something like that before.

In my opinion, the biggest differences are these:
– After Effects is a lot more powerful than Motion because it allows you to script anything and drive everything through expressions. Motion does not have any scripting capabilities.
– Motion is much better for 3D, particles and motion graphics, because in Motion everything lives in a real 3D world instead of layers.
– You can use After Effects compositions directly in Premiere Pro, while Apple has removed the functionality to directly import Motion files into FCPX. Hopefully they’ll re-add this rather soon.I never used Shake and can’t comment on that.

I hope to see some kind of magazine ad some day.
… Just a blank page …
… with a subtle, unobtrusive font in the middle …
… “Thank you, Apple.” …
… and at the bottom… there is a small adobe logo.
