From one Simon to another (it’s the best damn name ever!)…
Do not worry! It’s simply a pixel aspect ratio thing you’re seeing. To watch the sequence in QuickTime on a computer screen, do the following:
Export your sequence to Compressor, choose your compression, then click on the “Geometry” tab in the inspector window, and choose either the “Dimensions (encoded pixels)” section or the “Output Image Inset (Padding)”, and choose a 16×9 setting.
If you have other delivery requirements (tape, DVD), what are they? It’s an easy fix.
Cheers!

It’s interesting to read this. I was having terrible problems last week while trying to capture HDV through FireWire to my dual 2.7 G5 running 6.0.3. All of the clips were logged, but when capturing perfectly good footage (with no in-camera cuts), FCP would capture in small sections – breaking up, say, a 1 minute clip into a number of shorter clips (with the usual missing frames in between).
Originally, I thought it might be some wacky problem with the G5 so I tried capturing the stuff using my MacBook Pro running 6.0.3 but the problem was the same on that machine.
So… Then I gave it a shot on my clunky old G4 running 5.1.something, and lo and behold, everything captured perfectly.
Hmmmmmm…

Has anyone tried the Nattress Decaf Low-Fat filter yet? I’ve heard it’s much more powerful, versatile and delicious than the Trapcode Mocha Half-Caf filter.

I’m afraid I don’t have any of the io line, just the LH.
Thanks for the info, I’ll look into it.

It’s still there in Studio 2, except it’s under “Log and Transfer” rather than “Import”. Much better interface as well!

You may also want to post your question in the Aja Kona forum.
What version of the Kona drivers are you running? Their 5.1 NDD driver was designed to fix bugs in version 5.1 that caused some systems to experience kernel panics. I’m certainly not a techie, but that might be what you’re experiencing.

You might also try redoing the After Effects fix in Motion. I can’t guarantee that it’ll work, but you never know.

I’ve got 4.5 GB of RAM, and no other apps running in the BG. The drives are two LaCie 500 GB FireWire 800 drives.
While there are two tracks of video and eight tracks of audio, there are not all filled with elements all the time. In other words, they’re basically checkerboarded.
The weird thing is that the titles used to be real time. Maybe the sequence is somehow corrupted?

Thanks for the reply.
The drives each have over 200GB of available space.
As far as timelines go, the only one open is the edit itself. It’s a 27 minute sequence with two tracks of video and eight tracks of audio so it shouldn’t be taking up that much RAM.
No other applications are open in the BG.
This is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever encountered, not to mention EXTREMELY annoying and time consuming.

Merci, Pierre! Those sample projects are really helping me out.
