I’m experiencing a very annoying problem. I’m editing a feature doc shot and digitized in HDV, and I’ve been adding text here and there with no troubles – up until now everything’s been playing back in real time. However, for some unknown reason, whenever I add text now, I get the dreaded red line of unrendered hell! Also, if I go back to an earlier point in the timeline and add some text, one of two things happen, either later text elements become unrendered or some of the unrendered text magically becomes rendered.

None of the sequence settings has changed. RT is set to safe. I’ve trashed prefs, restarted the computer, zapped PRAM, sacrificed my first born, all to no avail.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, did you discover what the problem is and how on earth did you fix it?

    Thanks!

Is one of your hard drives nearly full by any chance?

If not, something may be chowing down on all your RAM. For instance, how many timelines do you have open?

    Thanks for the reply.

The drives each have over 200GB of available space.

As far as timelines go, the only one open is the edit itself. It’s a 27 minute sequence with two tracks of video and eight tracks of audio so it shouldn’t be taking up that much RAM.

No other applications are open in the BG.

This is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever encountered, not to mention EXTREMELY annoying and time consuming.

How much RAM do you have in the machine? Eight tracks of audio, two video and one or two text tracks will certainly gobble up RAM if you’re running the minimum amount, especially if you’re running any other apps.

In addition, what type of drives are you using?

I’ve got 4.5 GB of RAM, and no other apps running in the BG. The drives are two LaCie 500 GB FireWire 800 drives.

While there are two tracks of video and eight tracks of audio, there are not all filled with elements all the time. In other words, they’re basically checkerboarded.

The weird thing is that the titles used to be real time. Maybe the sequence is somehow corrupted?
