    Hi,

Just upgraded to a 3ghz MacPro, 4gb ram, with atto r380, aja kona 3. Now I’m getting a kernal panic when I do an edit to tape. Either just as I drag the sequence into the edit to tape or – after I re-install all the Kona3 drivers and re-seat the Kona card – just after layoff when it reaches the out point. At one stage, there was a panic when I set the sound option in the system settings pane to kona and this was after I’d closed fcp…..

I’m running all the latest software updates: 10.5.2, FCP 6.0.3, QT 7.4. Anyone else had this kind of problem with this kit??

    Thanks for any help.

    Todd

You may also want to post your question in the Aja Kona forum.

What version of the Kona drivers are you running? Their 5.1 NDD driver was designed to fix bugs in version 5.1 that caused some systems to experience kernel panics. I’m certainly not a techie, but that might be what you’re experiencing.

    Cheers Simon,

Yep, I’m running ndd drivers on the Kona. But good thinking on the forum bit…. I should spread the load! 🙂

Is your MacPro the 2008 version or 2007?

What slots do oyu have your cards in?

The Atto R380 was in the top one – 4. The Aja I tried in both 3 and 2 (Aja website says it’ll work in both). When it was in 2 I had more luck with the fcp getting to the outpoint before the veil of doom (which I’d never seen before and actually hoped, at one point, was a new feature on fcp! 🙂 ) of the kernal panic.

The only other card is the ATI bog-standard gpu in the bottom slot….

    I love Mac’s…..

Hmm. Have you contacted AJA? Great folks over there.

I’ve managed to get a support tech-type to take my computer away and leave a loan device with firewire storage. He thinks it might be the Aja and Kona conflicting so he’s going to try different drivers…

Did you try uninstalling the R380? What about the extra RAM?

I think that’s basically were the support is going… I’m sticking with the firewire storage for this upcoming job and let the techie pull his hair out! 🙂

Do you mean get extra ram, Russ? I hoping to get more in the next couple of weeks but I hoped 4gb would get me by….

    Thanks all!
