[AJ Robinson] “I see now, apple took it out of motion and put in another program- to make you buy it. Right?”

Yup, that’s the way it works 😉 Cunning, huh?!

    [AJ Robinson] “Compressor=more money.”

    You’re kidding, right!!??? 😉

Compressor is a complete steal at its current price – I’m not sure how you could justify not buying it!

Stephen is quite right – except that the best way to do this now is to use the Export using Compressor Settings rather than Send to Compressor as it saves quite a few unnecessary steps.

You can of course use any codecs and settings that are supported by Compressor (including Animation) which really gives you a lot of flexibility, so I’m not sure you’re really losing anything that you didn’t have before. Unless of course you don’t have Compressor installed …

October 15, 2012 at 1:53 pm in reply to: Motion 5 vs 4

[Alex Udell] “So how does copy and paste work?

Open Project, Select, Copy, Close Project

    Open Destination Project, Paste?”

Yes, I’m afraid so – it can be pretty tiresome if it’s something you need to do a lot of. Maybe easier just to import a whole project and unpick it.

Hope Apple fix this at some point.

[Alex Udell] “a) Copy and paste from one project to another
    b) Via the Browser, Drag Projects into other projects”

Yes, both of these are still possible with Motion 5 and work just fine.

However, as you know you can’t have more than one project open in this version which can be an annoying limitation at times, though not unworkably so.

    Have a look at this:

If you want to animate the arrows then keyframe the Offset.

Check out this excellent tutorial from T. Payton which shows how to do this:

[Schlanger Tamás] “the possibilities to change the control points of a rectangle are quiet poor in keyframe editor”

Is your specific problem that you can’t alter the keyframe interpolation?

  • As Mark says (and he’s always right!), it’s not possible to publish this to FCP X, but if you think you are going to need a longer build in or out why not just change it on your Motion project?

Go to the frame where you want your build in to end and hit “Shift M” on the keyboard followed by “Opt/Cmd M”, and then choose Build in Mandatory (or Optional) from the Type menu. Do the same thing for your Build out and except that you choose Build Out Mandatory (or Optional) from the Type menu.

As long as you then don’t want your title (or effect) to be shorter than the combined lengths of the Build in and out durations then you will be fine. And of course you can easily change these values whenever you want to if they’re not convenient.
