I haven’t run into this problem, but you could try a workaround, by exporting to some other codec like a lossless format, like animation codec, or no compression, and then recompress to mpg2… in QT Pro or in compressor…

The task of animating the babys mouth will require that you build a good model of the lower portion of the face, or all depending on the level of expression you want… so you’ll probably need some stills, unless you can do a 3d scan… then its a matter of determing how you want to approach the animation and the lipsync, then texturing with images if possible and then a high quality render. If I am not mistaken all the new macs, have temperature sensors that will automatically shutdown the computer if it gets to hot.

Why wouldn’t you wait for intel since the new power macs are coming soon…? unless you need the computer right away and can’t wait till the intel power macs come out, and see how well they work…
In terms of dual proc vs dual core, dual proc at the moment tends to give a bit better performance in parallel processing applications, but dualcore consumes less power, and is in theory better…

Its been a while but there used to be a record function in apple script, but the last time I used it was in OS9 so I am probably not the best person. But if you look on the developer site in their reference library you should be able to find what you are looking for.

Can you export the audio and video as two files and recombine them after the fact?
That might be better if you haven’t altered the audio…

Was the layer you are trying to apply the extract filter to a background layer? ie did you open the file and when you did, did it have only one layer with a lock symbol next to it?
If so select the whole layer and copy and paste it into a new layer and delete the background and try applying the extract filter.
