    Okay, so what’s the deal?

I’ve been trying to get fcp to export via compressor an mpg2 file that is not darker than my timeline. I thought I had read here that the latest version of compressor fixed this issue (I’m using fcp 5.1.1 and compressor 2.1), but things export as dark as ever.

Is there something I should be doing different, or is this problem best solved by a new piece of hardware? Please tell me I don’t have to spend more money.

I haven’t run into this problem, but you could try a workaround, by exporting to some other codec like a lossless format, like animation codec, or no compression, and then recompress to mpg2… in QT Pro or in compressor…

I’ve had this happen and ended up adjusting the brightness within Compressor before I export. This worked fine although a pain in the ass.

This seems to be a problem with every encoder I’ve tried with the possible exception of Bitvice. Compressor, Squeeze and Compression Master all seem to want to lower the gamma and increase the chroma and/or saturation. Yes it’s a pain, especially since you can’t see the filter results til you burn the disc, but I have got some great results doing this.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Don,

Very interesting, similar to my experience.

you should be able to view the file before you burn.. QT Pro with MPEG2 codec…
