  • FCP 6 especialy should not reject your mixed framerate footage. What happens exactly?

I can’t tell you wether or not you will encounter problems with this mix in 5.1, it will need to render whatever footage is non-native to the timeline to the proper frame rate. The results could be questionable. You should do some tests and get used to doing tests when your not sure of something. The only way to be sure is to see for yourself.

I would create a new timeline and inter-cut a few seconds of both your 24 and 60 footage. Make it short and use footage that has both fast and normal motion. Render it, watch it, export to your delivery format and watch it on a TV (if that is how it your final project will be viewed).

    Have fun,

    Thanks David & Rafael,

I think you have cleared this up for me.

So if I understand correctly, when encoding the mpeg2 file for most compatible comercial DVD, the field dominance makes absolutely no differance as long as it is interlaced with the field dominance of the origional footage. Encoding to progressive mpeg2 for DVD may only work for players manufactured after 2004 playing through interlaced TVs, and would not be best for compatability of all DVD players out there.

If I am working with progressive footage, is compressor the best (highest quality) way to interlace it for best player compatability, or would after effects be better?

    Thank you again!

For me sometimes I need to press the play button on the camera before final cut can control it. Maybe something to do with time code or signal needed for detection?

I’m not to familliar with Premier, I use Final Cut. But I would make sure you are capturing to the same format of HDV that you shot and not doing some sort of conversion wile capturing. Also make sure your project or timeline settings match. You may be able to find more info in a Premier forrum.

  • It sounds like time is of the essence for you, but if I were in your shoes I would start with a new sequence that matched your footage’s settings exactly. Select all clips in the original sequence and copy paste them to the new sequence. I would also make sure your editor didn’t add any conversion filters or plugins to the clips to help them match the old 29.97 setting. toggle on and off the visibility buttons for all the video tracks in the new sequence to get rid of any old render files and re-render the whole thing.

    Good luck,

    Thanks Dave.

Its nice to know I’m not the only one. I did get good results from export using quictime conversion to 30p NTSC with deinterlace source checked. When I get time, I am going to do some tests with nattress standards conversion. I just wish that apple would be more honest about what can and can’t be expected with the current state of their software, then I wouldn’t have to spend all my time playing junior scientist and testing my results after I’ve shot something and am trying to meet a deadline.

Never had luck with stabilizer in FCP5. However “Smoothcam” in FCP6 works great.

    Thanks Tom,

I had to make sure that none of the clips in the timeline were selected for it to work.

    Thanks again
